    Turner's Tape

What's a good brand for turner's tape? I've been going through a lot of it lately. I bought some from Lee Valley years ago that I really liked and just ordered some more. I hate the new stuff! The adhesive sticks to the wood very easily and the plastic separator strip shrinks which shrinks the tape. There is no brand, it just says, "Made in Canada."

What's a good brand for next time?

I have the Lee Valley tape also, with the same limitations. Rockler sells precut packages of tape that are available in different diameters. B
ought some, just haven't had a chance to see how it performs.

Okay, are you talking about the double sticky sided tape? If so, I get indoor/outdoor carpet tape at my local big box hardware store. Never use that type of tape while turning, but have found a lot of other uses for it.

Duck Brand, Indoor/Outdoor carpet tape (don't get the "indoor" type). It's cheap at Walmart and strong enough for light duty turning; just don't hang a lot of weight on it very far from the waste block.

I've been using the Turners Tape from Woodcraft for over 10 yr's not one problem. There tape is a cloth type don't get there double sided pattern tape just ask for Turners tape. The only way to separate it is to PUSH not drive a chisel into the crack and it will slowly start to separate then just keep pulling. I did some platters for gift's a few years ago 16 to 19" with a 5" face plate covered with this tape.Put it on and put under pressure for 5 to 10 minutes. I get Woodcraft #15D25 1" wide the 2" I have not used it's #is 15D26.

I found it! So I ordered it and it is the same tape that has been bullet proof.

Also remember that tape is pressure activated. So make sure to use some tailstock pressure to set it.

No, not unless it's absolutely necessary.

Which one did you get. They don't seem to have any "Turners Tape".
