    pin chuck (mandrel)

    can anyone give me some insight on just how to make a pin chuck?
    can't find a web site explaining this.

    I've made them in wood, aluminum, and steel. Depends on what kind of metal working equipment you have, how big the work piece is, and how you will hold the pin chuck on your lathe. More details and I can help. I basically works out to be a smooth bar of steel, with a flat made on it just deeper than the diameter of the pin you will use. Put the pin in the center of the flat, push on the part, then rotate it so the pin climbs up the flat and wedges itself in the hole in the wood.
