I applied two coats of Minwax Antique Oil to a cherry desktop that I had just build and finished sanding and it was looking good, but not perfect. I applied the third coat and, before I could buff it off, I had an emergency and had to take someone to the hospital immediately. By the time I got back home, the Antique Oil had dried to a hard and very glossy finish. Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can repair this (i.e., get rid of the thick glossy coat)? Will another coat soften the hard glossy coat so that I can buff it off, or should I sand it off, or some other trick? Thanks for your advice.
