Wood Identification and Finishing techniques for possible upcoming project.

So I was looking for some help identifying this wood and a good way to finish to match. I think its knotty alder finished in perhaps an oil stain? I will be building an aquarium and need the stand/canopy to match per customer's request. I asked the customer and he thought it was walnut but he had no clue.

    Thanks

Good luck with the color matching. It does have a hint of knotty alder in it. Here's a couple of frames I just finished in alder. They're sitting on a bar top also made of knotty alder and finished with what's called special walnut from minwax. Both the bar top and frames were finished with the same can, but still yielded various colors.
