    Found Spindle Sander

This spindle sander followed me home yesterday. Was considering purchasing a Jet while on sale this week or even a Ridgid small one. This cost less than both of them at $155. It's a re-badged Boice-Crane according to the folks over at owwm. It' is in the "found" condition in these photos. I will change the oil this week and try to see if it's plug and play. It's in remarkable condition for its age. Came from a local school district and still has the school inventory tag.

My guess is that with a bit of effort this spindle sander will outlast and out-perform the Jet or Ridgid.

There is a member at the OWWM site that will make any size spindle needed.

Congrats and looks great. If the machine is sound, I would recommend looking for extra spindles......either duplicates or from a commonly available Jet/Grizzly that could possibly be adapted by re threading the male threads to match.

The spindles are tapered, not threaded. Are the Jet/Grizzly spindles tapered or threaded?

I have spindles from a Jet of Grizzly (not sure). They have a shorter, thicker taper with threads on the end. My guess is that you could make do with that set just fine if you can't find others.

I was going to say that you could have those made pretty reasonably. Congrats on a great old machine with lots of table real estate. I hope she serves you well in exchange for giving her a good home ;-)
