    Chippendale chair

This is a Chippendale style chair fashioned after one made by 18th century Portsmouth, NH maker Robert Harrold.

Where the original was in mahogany with over the rail upholstery, my version is constructed from air dried walnut with a slip seat. This one also has wedged through tenons for the side rails and this would not have been seen on an eighteenth century NH chair.
Upholstery was done in a manner consistent with the period. A slip seat frame made of ash with webbing, burlap, horse hair, muslin, cotton, and finally the top fabric.
Finish is oil followed by shellac and wax.
