What do the gold stars next to the thread title indicate?

I hate to ask a dumb question here, but didn't know where else to ask. I noticed that next to some posts, there are sometimes good stars. Most times there are 5, but I've seen less. I didn't see this listed in the symbol key, so I was wondering what this means

Go up to the tool bar up by your name and scroll over to where it says - Rate This Thread.
You can rate it from 0 to 5 stars.
The software will average it out if people rate it different values.

I'm just saying let's remove all the warning labels and let the problem sort itself out.
