    Another what is this?

I recently came across this thing, which I can't figure out what it is or what it's for. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Looks like a Stanley 49 depth gauge - threads onto a Jennings type bit to get repeatable depth holes. Nice if you're drilling out large mortises before the chisel work.

If you can keep the lead screw engaged, I usually just count turns from when the flutes start cutting - accurate enough for most tasks. Of course, I don't have a bit gauge, so maybe I'm really missing something.

Yup, clamps around an auger bit when used in a brace. It's a depth stop.

    Oh . . . where did you find that ? ? ? ?
    Your back yard probably.
It keeps my anti gravity stabilizer stable.
Must have fallen off my space ship one night when I was buzzing your part of the Earth.
I have been treacherously unstable ever since.
    Dammed nuisance.
Can I have it back ?

Yah, yah people use them for that too but I mean originally.
    They are stabilizer stabilizers.

Look in about any interstellar space cruiser . . . you will find it right next to the Kanuter valve regulator calibrator.

Winton, you have been watchin' too much TV, or you're in the sauce.

On the other hand, I still have five fingers.

    Probably both.
    I am never wrong.

Why is it that I find Herr Applegate cogent?

    I understand him, immediately.

The item in question is actually a Fraunipulator, from which the stabilizer stabilizing mechanism was derived.
It's an easy enough mistake to make, not that I've ever done so.

I use a towel on my Hyperdrive, instead.
It's warm by the time I get to my destination.

    The towel, I mean.

    Not the destination.

    Or the Hyperdrive, neither.

    There's nothing worth watching on TV . . . I checked.
Naw I don't drink much . . . one martini every month or so . . . I will have a glass of wine with the steak tonight but that is even more rare.

I am kind of addicted to flying the ship though.
Queenmasteroftheuniverseandbabybunnytrainer says I need to spend less time doing that and do more around the house. So today I am staying on the ground and talking to you guys from the couch. That ought to fulfill her request . . . don't you think ?

And just what does the temperature of your meat have to do with how much you drink?
