Indian Basket from Jim Adkin's Class

I was fortunate enough to take a class from Jim Adkins. I worked on two practice pieces in class and this is one of them. Made from maple, it is 9.25" across, 2" high and finished with Danish Oil. It is kind of a kick-in-the-pants, because I have shown it in person to 10 people or so and every single person thought that it was woven and asked me when I started weaving. A couple of people did not believe that it was wood even when they were holding it. And yes, I know that I only completed one row of the pattern on the back side, but it was practice!

wow, that is beautiful. Can't imagine what you'll make after a few more practice pieces if that was one of your first.

Very nice, even if you didn't do he second detail row on the outside. Most would have to have that pointed out to notice it anyway. would love the opportunity to take a class or at least see a demo at a symposium or at the club. Have to find out if Jim would like to come to Florida this winter....

Well done, Robert. An example of a good student learning from a great instructor. If you decide to more of these, (and I hope you do) please share with us. Jim is scheduled to do a demo at our club in October. Can't wait!!

Robert, they always told me that TU was a basket weaving school. Now I believe it.
If I could learn that at A&M I would go take it.
    Really neat.
