    Wire Terminal Crimper

I'm looking for a good crimper tool that has interchangable jaws to crimp insulated and non-insulated wires - any suggestions. All I see on amazon are either non-insulated or insulated tools...

I use these from Klein, they do both.

I just bought a crimper with interchangeable jaws from Proskit.com. The reason I choose Pro's Kit is they have jaws for crimping insulated terminals from 8 gauge all the way through 20 gauge. Most crimpers don't do 8 gauge.

I use the crimpers in Ed's #2 post in this thread on non-insulated connectors that are required on ground wires. I swore off insulated crimp-ons a long time ago. The best example is on trailer wiring. They will always give trouble on wiring for a trailer, or tow vehicle. I use rosin cored solder, and heat shrink tubing, or at least 3M 33+ electrical tape. I've never had any trouble with one of these soldered connections, and we have some boat trailers that go back to the '70s that the lights have always worked on (except for maybe a bulb burning out). The soldering setup stays in the electrical toolbox, so staying organized makes it a relatively simple job.

I have several hardware store crimpers, you know the all-in-one tool that strips, cuts, crimps and cuts screws, and blows your nose, none of it very well. But finally got this one also, at HD if IRRC. Very simple to use. For a critical application like boat trailer wiring, I use the insulated terminals that heat shrink with goo that melts around the wire insulation, in addition to weatherproofing, it gives a good mechanical bond. Available at most auto suppliers. And if I need a termination on a standard non-insulated terminal that will not pull out, I just use the non-insulated crimp position.
