    Sorry if I was not clear on this. I drill the holes in the tote prior to even cutting the plate slot. It avoids any tear out in the center of the tote. The holes act as a guide for the carbide bit. And yes, that spade bit will chew up the tote for lunch if not lined up correctly. Best wishes.

    The slot has been cut in the tote. I may have to insert a piece of wood in the slot before drilling. If that fails, I can cut another tote out. The tote has been cut to outline, but it hasn't seen a rasp yet.

    Lowell. You just have to make sure the slot is clear of any wood chips from possible tear out. It can get in between the plate and side of the tote and make it appear to be off a bit.
