1/4" acrylic for edge lighting... any experience?

    Hello!

I've finally got my laser fixed so would like to start making something! LOL

I've found some 1/4" LED lighting strips. I've got an idea to be used in a car for a small edge lit piece of acrylic... probably only 6 or 7" wide and 1.5" tall. I'm thinking it would look better (depth wise) if the acrylic were 1/4" rather than what I am gathering is the standard at 3/8" (for edge lighting).

Do you guys have an experience with 1/4" vs 3/8" acrylic and edge lighting?

I also would like to make my own basic metal channels to lay the LED strip lighting in and then slide the acrylic on top. I'd like to buy say 4' sections of "something" and then cut it down myself to save some $$$. Has anybody found a channel at Home Depot or ? that wasn't intended to be used for edge lighting but works... idea being if they don't know it works for fancy edge lighting I might be able to pick it up for a fraction of the cost of the stuff you by AS edge lighting channel. Hahaha

    Thanks!

I can't be of much help but here's a place I pass every time I run out to JDS for supplies.
