Settings for Delrin to make embosser

Hoping someone can give me a little advice.

What settings would you recommend to engrave Delrin to make embossers? I have a 80w Speedy 300. I know I can just go test this but I think something is not right so I want to know what everyone else thinks.

Hi Chris, I don't have the settings for Delrin, but wondered if you knew that their is a "Seal" option in the latest version of the driver that makes the positives and negatives somewhat automatically? You tell it the bond of paper and it sets all the clearances for it. It's pretty slick. I think it's only in 10.3.

Yes, I have used that option in Job control it's awesome! Here is what is going on. I engrave delrin at 20% speed for embossers. My buddy has a 60W speedy and he gets the same depth as me engraving at 50% speed. So he is getting twice the speed with less power. I have 3 x speedy300 80w lasers and they all engrave this at the same speed. So I know something can't be wrong with all 3 of them. I am just wondering if I am missing something somewhere else.

Our setting are exactly the same except he engraves at 50%.

I don't want to hijack the thread as I am interested in the use of Delrin for embossing but what is the 'seal' option and what is it used for?

Hopefully have my Speedy 300 at end of Nov so need to learn as much as possible before then so I can just crack on.

It's a mode in the driver and it will make positive and negatives for making a seal. You enter the paper thickness and it calculates the clearance needed.

Just a few additional thoughts to toss into the fire:

Maybe there's something different about the Delrin...
Are you getting your Delrin from the same source?
What if you try a piece of your friends material in your machine and a piece of your material in his machine.

How often do you both clean your lenses?

How old are the laser tubes in all machines?
Are the laser tubes made by the same manufacturer? I was told by tech support that the tube on my 30W machine is made by Synrad, but on higher wattage models, Trotec uses a different manufacturer.

Have you seen your friends Delrin work in person for a comparison to yours?
If you're relying on phone conversation or email descriptions, maybe his engraving really isn't as deep as yours.

That's a hard one to troubleshoot over the internet. We'd have to know everything about both cases. Same size graphics? Settings, PPI, DPI, Speed, Power, etc. He could be sending the job over at 1000 DPI or even 600, where you might be sending it at 333 or 500. If he sent it over at 600 and you sent it at 333, they could make a fairly big difference from the power appearance. It would take less power at 600DPI to cut deeper than it would at 333 dpi with more power.

Then there's smaller issues like whether or not you are using a nose cone and which nose cone you might be using. Is the beam clipping the edge of the nose cone? Is the beam aligned? Have you checked your alignment? Lots of little things like that.

If you want to get all his setting and yours and post them, I'm sure we can collectively look for clues and try to help you figure it out.

All I really want to know is if anyone engraves Delrin and has a 80w laser what settings would they use.We use the exact same brand of Delrin. I can also confirm that we are using all the same settings. I used his file and his exact settings. He even has the same brand laser tube as I do. He has a 60W Radion thats a month old. I have THREE 80w Speedy 300's one is 18 months old, the other is a year and the newest one is 4 months old. All my lasers engrave the delrin at 20-23 speed. He engraves at 50 speed and gets the same depth as me.



We think he has a overpowered tube and got lucky when he thought he was getting a 60W.
