    Velcro mandrels for Dremels

    image.jpgimage.jpg

I did did a hands on demo for our club. These were a smaller version for use with the newer Dremel snap on sanding disks. I glued either foam and Velcro or just velcro onto the disks. Now the Velcro paper can be changed or the whole disk snapped out and a different size or shape snapped in. The carvers at the club loved the idea and the turners who carved on their pieces will saved much time and money replacing the expensive disks

Bob , that sounds like a very good idea, was wondering what type of foam you used? I suppose it would have to be something sort of stiff to work well.

I've made mandrels from all kinds, flip flops, mouse pads, kneeling pads. Interlocking floor pads, and closed foam craft sheets. All serving differents uses or custom sizing. I use many twenty different mandrels to sand. I even have a 5" one for lage platters and bowls. I use a 1/2" Milwaukee drill to spin that large a disk.

    Now that is real engineering.
