    Translucent Norfolk Island Pine

I turned and burned a couple norfolk island pine bowls, then soaked them repeatedly in a mixture of 1/2 linseed oil and 1/2 mineral spirits. The bowls are becoming translucent however they are also sticky now. Does anyone have an idea how to remove
    the "gunk" off the outsides?

Perhaps just gently rubbing them down with a soft cloth with mineral spirits in it will help remove the excess finish...

Would keeping them near a warm dehumidifier help the oil cure?

My experience is that the BLO will continue to bleed out for a good while. Just keep wiping........
When I started woodworking, I didn't know squat. I have progressed in 30 years - now I do know squat.

Thanks everyone. I have had them outside in the sun, inside, will be trying the mineral spirits route if I can pry myself away from my lathe.

Remember, you're really saturating the wood with the oil so it's going to take time to stabilize...this isn't a "quick finish" method! But the end result is worth the time and effort...
