Does anyone own the 1.5 or 2hp Laguna cyclone dc's? They're on sale now and am wondering if it's the time for me to upgrade.

I don't know anything about the Laguna units, who actually makes them and where they are made. Have you considered our east-cost cyclone specialists in Syracuse? It's what they do!

I think its pretty easy to find the manufacturer of the Laguna units because I have read it here and other places several times but cant seem to recall. As for me, I have an Ore-Ida but would have absolutely zero problem buying a Laguna. They have done very well by me even with regards to customer service. If you're worried about the build quality, the search for the manufacturer would probably answer it.

I can tell you that the 3HP mobile cyclone with auto filter cleaning is exactly the same as the JDS model that I have. It is also almost $200 cheaper from JDS. I have no complaints about mine and have had it for about 2 years now.

Ooh i did not know the height plays into this. I already have and love my thien baffle, but it all makes for a large footprint. Im space challeneged.

There's a relationship between cyclone cone height and extraction efficiency. A longer cone removes a higher percentage of the dust from the airstream, and a shorter cone removes less. That's why on these short-cone designs there's a built-in beater in the filter cartridge; enough dust gets to the filter that you want to clean it fairly often. Some of the short-cone designs have mechanical beaters, and some have motorized beaters.

I bought the 1 1/2 about a year ago and am really happy with it. Had read an old review that questioned fit and finish, absolutely no problems with mine. Put it together by myself. It does a great job on both planner & table saw (both are about 20 LF of duct away. Wish I had bought the 2 HP ( only $200 difference) but I had miscalculated location and head height.
Fully recommend this tool.

LOL. My first "little" Oneida cyclone is still going strong in a friend's shop in NJ. I doubt I'll every need or want to upgrade what I have, so you'll have to buy your own!
