Barstool design - placement of the footrest rail

If you have built barstools, you probably have arrived at a way to best locate the footrest rail.

I sat on a barstool yesterday that had the rail too high for comfort, in that I had to raise my knees above where I would have liked. It measured only 14 inches from top of rail up to the hard seat surface. It felt like it was designed for an 8-year old. I think it should be in the range of 16 to 18 inches.

    What do you place it?

Yeah, I put the footrail 18" or so below the seat.

Agree - A normal seat height to the floor is 17" to 18" so the rail should be set to that "standard" ratio.
