How to Square Turn or someone that can do this?

    Hi all,

not sure this really belongs here but its still turned so i figured why not.

do anyone of you know how this is done or can you do this?

it's a "square turning" for a trestle table. I'm going to build one and would like to do the legs myself if possible or have some do it for me that isn't mass producing them or making them solely from rubber wood.

is it straight band saw work? i borrowed this image from an online source that will make these for me but at $900 i would rather spend that money on exotic wood for the top and make these myself. size is 10"x10" for scale but i would mostly do them in 8"x8".

    thanks,

    Brian

Yeah, it is bandsaw work. $900 for the set is completely reasonable.

$900 would be without the feet. but yes still reasonable don't get me wrong, but there is something inside me that feels guilt when i look at a piece and think..."man, i could have made that"

    you know?!

thanks for the response and validation of what i thought.

If the faces are slightly rounded, it can be done on a lathe -- "therming". Much Victorian woodwork, especially balusters and newel posts, were produced that way. There have been articles in American Woodturner. Look also at Barbara Dill's webpage. And Google is is your friend.

might get better results with a shaper doing the tops and bottoms and a bandsaw to do the middles
