    Dangerous flashlight apps

I saw a news report about smart phone flashlight apps. It seems that many of them written in China, Russia, and a few other not-so-nice countries require access to info on the phone, that something so simple has no need for. They send your info out to the bad guys.

snoopwall.com has a lot of info on security for your smart phone, especially Android. A very good read.

And if you have an iPhone, the flashlight function comes built in.

I haven't noticed the flashlight function to be impactive to battery life on the iPhone. I don't use it for long walks in the woods so, maybe a few moments here and there. What is curious is that someone might think that one free app is any safer or more dangerous than another

My iPhone is jailbroken, so this has allowed me to install an app called "Activator". It allows me to set up various functions based on things like double-pressing a button or long-holding a button, etc. One function I have set is that a double-press of the home button from just about anywhere will turn on the flashlight (camera flash). It's one of the most-used functions of my phone...
