    Cool Garage Sale find

Looking around at a Garage sale, picked up a few old wrenches ( $0.25 each) and heard the seller say he had other stuff on the back porch of the house. Wandered over there....three handsaws, and a meatcutter's saw. Passed on the steak cutter, it had beenspray painted black. One handsaw was a 60s model WS.....not that great. A cheap WS saw was under it....meh...parts? ( it used rivets that LOOKED like bolts) and under that was this rusty thing, for a dollar

it did have a disston medallion, and a nibNIB.jpgwelllll

Once that screen door had left the shop, I cleaned and polish this old saw back up. Brass was shined, tote cleaned up and coated in BLO
Never found more than a hint( Ghost?) of any etch. Saw barely the top of the scales, about it. Rest was long gone. So, ready to see what a dollar bill gets in these parts?

Lamb's Tongue, and a "7" for 7ppi. Doesn't look like it was ever re-sharpened. Plenty of set, filed crosscut, plate is straight, no missing teeth. Tote had ONE small crack ( closed up after the BLO hit it) Still not sure about that Nib

Not too bad for a $1 saw?

Nice find, for a buck I wouldn't be able to pass it up.

Gave it a test drive....cuts FAST, but a bit rough. Too much set? It does cut as straight as the Dummy holding the saw can cut a line. Handle feels a might cramped, though. Does the index finger rest alongside the tote, or on the top of it?

My index finger usually rests alongside the tote. Pointing along the saw line.

If my handles feel cramped a rasp is used on the areas that seem to pinch. Just a little at a time until the handle is comfortable. Sometimes this progresses over a few months or even years.

Model of the saw is from 1896-1917.

Nice old saw. LOTS of set to them teeth, too.

26" long, Disston & Sons, No.7 7ppi crosscut? Haven't tried it as a rip, yet.
