    2‐butoxyethanol

I have found the following information about the composition of Simplegreen and TREND CLEAN/500 Tool & Bit Cleaner

    https://www.machinemart.co.uk/docume...lean500-uk.pdf

    and

    http://simplegreen.com/pdfs/MSDS_EN-...oseCleaner.pdf

    So my question

Would it be possible /sensible /legal/safe

to make you own tool cleaning solution by purchasing ( if possible /legal /safe )

a bottle of 2‐butoxyethanol and diluting it to a 4% solution

In the United Kingdom I found the follwing link

    http://mistralni.co.uk/products/2-bu...yl-ether-butyl

So a 1 litre bottle of this would make 25000 ml (2.5litres) of blade cleaner or 47 times the volume of the Trend product

    regards Brian

It may be possible, but the formula given by the MSDS sheets you found aren't an exact formula. It probably is legal as long as you don't sell it as Simple Green. It would only be sensible if you can purchase the ingredients and make the mixture for less than you can buy it already mixed. Only a chemist gould tell you if mixing those ingredients poses and health or safety risk.

I suggest you do a search of the SMC archives to see past discussions on using Simple Green as a blade cleaner.

It's not really scary stuff as far as I'm concerned, being the same cleaner in Formula 409, and Totally Awesome, but it is worth being aware that it was used in the cleanup of the Exxon Valdez spill, and a lot of the people using it all day ended up with severe nerve damage.

A huge thank youfor your reply

    Notes

    (1) if I make a 4% solution of 2‐butoxyethan0l by mixing it with water the cost of the solution is 1/47 the cost of a bottle of Trend tool and bit cleaner

    (2) The link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2-Butoxyethanol indicates 2-Butoxyethanol is miisible with water and gives other safty data

    regards Brian
