Nakashima's Conoid Chair?

Apologies if this has been discussed previously, but does anyone know what was the inspiration for the Conoid chair, or any historical precedent for a cantilevered seat with only two legs? I tried reading what I could, but could't find any reference to such.

I don't believe so, if there were it was not pointed toward in Mira's book. His previous chairs with inspired by shaker designs and also by Charlotte Perriand.
