My condo has jatoba floors and the finish is failing in several areas. It was installed and finished (it was not prefinished) less than 10 years ago and the failing spots are not in high traffic areas. The spots cross several boards in the problem areas, and the floors are fine elsewhere, so I suspect a problem with the finishing process. I've used jatoba for furniture pieces and finished with shellac with no problems. I'm thinking of spot sanding and using a shellac coat for adhesion followed by polyurethane. I don't know if I can match the existing finish, but I don't want to have the whole floor refinished and I figure I can sand or steel wool the area to match the gloss. If nothing else, it will be better than the gray wood that is now showing.

Any suggestions?
