I've had the Powermatic for several years, and it's been trouble-free. All three brands have reasonably good reputations. I really think the only differences between those choices are levers vs. handwheels, paint color, and the shape of the base.

Most people, me included, sooner or later find the 6" capacity limiting.

    Thanks Chuck,

I read that a lot but moving up to a 8" I cannot make at this time.

I come across that Hammer A3 yesterday, man its pretty to look at. One of these days...

+1 for the PM54A. No problems whatsoever. However, I agree that the 6" capacity is limiting at times.

I've had my 54A for about a year now. It came very well adjusted right out of the box, was not hard to assemble (get a helper, it's heavy), and does an awesome job on the rather easy woods I've been working with (poplar, pine). I will remark that you really should get some serious dust collection hooked up that can suck this bad boy clean, because shavings tend to clog the chute and become a nuisance, otherwise.
