    Clock question

I'm building a clock from some salvaged lumber for a Christmas present. I ordered a clock assembly capable of and equipped with 10-inch hands. I need the hands to be shorter than 10 inches but longer than most clock assembly hands. My question: If I shorten the hands about 2 inches, will that affect the time keeping of this particular clock motor since it was designed for 10-inch hands? Thanks Lewis

I don't think it will have any effect on it at all.

Old clock designs would often have a long skinny pointed end and a short fat counterbalanced end.

Modern battery powered clocks seem to have lightweight aluminum hands without counterbalances. The worst case scenario is probably that the clock stops when the battery drains by 98%, while perfectly balanced hands would run until the battery drains by 99%. The difference is insignificant.
