    Basic coffee table dimensions

I have been asked to make a basic coffee table with a lift up top. He just wants something with simple lines with emphasis on function over form. I have found the lift bracket and it is on order. I think I want a rectangular shape about 18X36-40 inches. Is there a standard height for such a table? I can't seem to find a plan even though I would have thought there would be many.

Yeah, something like that. I have just been down to the shop and I think I have enough oak lumber to make it. I think maybe 24x46 or so may be a better size. 18" wide seems a bit narrow.
Hey Dave, I am thinking I might try my hand a drawing this in SU. I can't think of anything that would be much simpler.

I think that 20" wide looks visually pleasing, and everything I've measured is from 16 to 18".

Let me know how you get on. If you want a hand, I've got time right now.
