After several years of trouble free use, all of a sudden I can't get the headstock to unlock in order to swivel it. The lathe is bolted to a bench so I can't really see anything and the manual isn't much help, so I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same problem and can give me some advice.

Did you loosen the clamping bolt behind and under the headstock? I know that sounds silly, but I did that with my Nova 1624 once and I had owned it for over a year at that point!

There is a bolt under the headstock that is used to hold it in place for shipping. Perhaps that has finally worked itself tight. Also I guess you have tired this but is the slot under the headstock free of debris. Mine gets full quickly. Maybe a piece of wood chips are binding. If the bolt is loose enough when you loosen the headstock bolt you should be able to rock the headstock and even lift it slightly.
