New Lumber Storage and first post

My shop is in my basement and I store my lumber on Triton Racks and that weird space under the stairs. The racks work fine but the space under the stairs became a catch all for anything and everything with my lumber buried underneath. I decided to come up with a better system. I emptied out the space under the stairs and made horizontal racks out of 3/4" EMT. I figured it was strong enough because it was supported on both sides, if not it's easy enough to replace.

The racks are about 2.5' wide and 6-7" high. The whole space is about 9' deep. The vertical space to the left is about 1.5' wide and 5' tall. I left this space to be used for plywood storage. Soon as I can I plan to build a rolling cart that can slide in and out of that space. I figured this would be easiest to access what I need. The stuff is much easier to access now and stores way more then before.

I always like the posts with plenty of pictures.

Sorry, I have no idea why some pictures are sideways. No idea how to fix.

Try dropping them into a paint program, rotate 90 degrees, rotate back, save. A lot of the digital photo taking devices record image orientation in the EXIF http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exchang...ge_file_format. There are programs to rewrite if it's a real problem.

Looking good for that "weird space".
I had done mine similar in years back but oriented so the boards ran in the direction of the stairs. That way on the bottom I could get in 10' lengths, but I had to stay within the width of the stairs.

Thanks for the tip George I will give it a try. Sideways pictures are annoying.

I couldn't go the way you did because I have the racks on the long side. Even if not it wouldn't have worked out for me because of the layout, but the 10' length I am sure is nice to have.
