    Stew,

    I'm a big fan of LEDs, but that seems like expensive overkill. If you're shop is of any size, you'll need multiple light fixtures to provide adequate light.

    One of these fixtures pumps out about 11,000 lumens for $87 at home depot: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Lithonia-...MVIS/202591815 . You get four of them for about the same cost as one of those LED units. Here is a pic of my "shop" (garage). It has three 4-bulb units and thirteen 2-bulb units. Lighting is excellent:

    It's amazing what you can accomplish in the 11th hour, 59 minute of any project. Ya just have to keep your eye on the goal.

    Costco = $32/3700 lumen $0.0086/lumen on sale next week http://www.feit.com/documents/pdf/73991_SpecSheet.pdf I think
    Home Depot = $25/3200 lumens $0.0078 per lumen (I just bought 5 on sale, now back to $40)
    https://store.bigasssolutions.com/li...=baf-site-link $400/13000 $0.3077/lumen

    LED prices are dropping fast.

    They look tough but are expremely expensive. I'd rather replace a few from damage and still be money ahead... Its the right thought though, perhaps they'll come down in price.

    I looked at those at the last SEMA show. They looked nice and were very well built.

    Trying to justify them on the basis of light per dollar would be impossible. They looked like they were worth that price based on quality of construction and durability. It is just a question of who would need them and for what.

    They probably belong in the same private garage as the modular bench with upper and lower cabinets that were there from several companies in the $15-40,000 range. Neither is going to end up in my garage.
