How to clean up worm holes?

Hey folks, newbie here, I went to the local sawmill today and picked up some ash for a lectern I'm making for our church. It has some worm holes which I'm going to leave, to add that ever sought after character. My question is what is the best, less time consuming way to get the worm crud out of the holes and voids?
Thanks for any help anyone cares to share.

The only thing I can think of that would be quick and effective would be to pressure wash, but that may have some other less than desired consequences.

Compressed air works for me in that exact task.
