I've got this Maple Morris chair I'm refinishing and it's got this horrible orange/red dye in the wood. The owner wants it "really dark brown but warm". So, I figured I would just wipe some Extra Dark Walnut on it and the orange would poke through a bit giving some warmth - nope. On the test area, the Walnut was anything but uniform - almost smeary. So, I know I can spray Mohawk Raw Umber ultra penetrating dye on this and get what I want(because I wiped a bit on as a test) but, because I have a hard time spraying dyes, especially around corners, I was considering giving the General Finishes Java Gel stain a go.
Opinions? Insults? General Banter?
