Almost lost a LARGE Alaskan Birch Burl yesterday!!

So, there I was in the Basement, looking to do some turning since it's been snowing since NOVEMBER!!! I check on the Alaskan Birch Burl that I wanted put on the Lathe, and it's not where I left it !!

WHAT???? So, I check around the bench, thinking maybe it fell on the floor. Nope , Not there. I go back upstairs and ask " What happened to the Birch Burl I got from Alaska ? "

The answer I got ......

" You mean that big , ugly chunk of wood ? "


"Yes" I replied.

" I was doing some cleaning and thought it was scrap."

Please elaborate on why "Almost Lost" is in the thread title -- sounds from your post that it is gone...

That might depend on when he found out she tossed it - before the garbage truck arrived, or AFTER.

Assuming you still have that burl, Id make her a lovely bowl out of it and spend extra time and effort to make it nice. When I presented it to her, Id stress she nearly missed out, just to gently teach her what's in it for her not to do that again.

But man, my blood pressure goes up just THINKING about someone going through my stuff and throwing out things they don't understand.
