Thread: Butterfly table project

    Question Butterfly table project

I'm making a butcher block top for an extended kitchen island (34 x 60) and the client wants a 12" leaf that folds flat out of the way. I'm looking at the butterfly leaf designs and wondering - does anyone know how that design does scaling up in top thickness? All the plans look to call for 3/4" tops, and my butcher block slab is going to be 1 1/4" of white ash. Any thoughts, guidance, or past experience greatly appreciated.

Take a look at this vid. Looks like he has a thick top and leaves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47jaMQBY25k

So, yeah, it can be done. As for the plans you have for scaling up, I cannot say.
