    Handcrafted

    Here's to the handcrafted!

    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achim_Leistner

Achim Leistener was coaxed out of retirement to craft the Silicon Spheres for the Avogadro Project. He is thought to be the person who has created the "roundest" object in history. Machines aren't able to match his work.

Its humbling when you see something as crafted by hand as this. I wonder how he could do at sharpening?

With the revision of Avogadro's Constant, be prepared to adjust your scales (presuming we are working to many decimal points of a Kg).

That link is to an extraordinary story. I don't doubt the accuracy of the objects ,but would not be surprised if the Amazing
Randi had something to do with keen sense of touch explanation.

Here is a video about this. Side note: I think the lady in the video likes the speaker.

Thanks Shawn. What an amazing skill to have. Spheres have always fascinated me. I'm not really a collector, but I've wanted to collect stone spheres all my life.

What an amazing sense of touch he has. I am reminded of the spheres found in Costa Rica. Nobody knew how they could be crafted so perfectly. Another amazing feat of craftsmanship.

    Thanks for posting Shawn.

Amazing! Love the story. And people don't believe me when I tell them it's easier to get accurately duplicated diameters in wood freehand with a sharp skew on a wood lathe than it is using a scraper on a metal lathe.
