I'm finding Norton handle sizes like
Type E size 0
Type B size 3
Ferruled size 0, size 3
etc.
So what is the "type" and what is the size referring to?
I went to Nicolson's site and there's not much info.
Can anybody give me a reference chart?

Hi Robert. On page 61, Nicholson File Company 1941 Catalogue, there is information on file handle sizing.

Good stuff Stewie
Thanks for that.
This is beyond good stuff...guy asks a question rather specific and Mr. Simpson answers in less than an hour and a half with the specific page number from a 74 year old catalog mucho kudos
Hi Stewie,
I may be mistaken, and am not looking at the right site, but the page I saw with the file handle sizes appears to be page 39. Just a thought.
Stew
Hi Stew, Its page no. 61 of the actual catalogue, but within pdf format its 36 of 39.
Old catalogs are a great tool for learning.
Thanks for sharing that Stewie.

It was interesting to see the woodworkers half round files as opposed to the regular half round files. The woodworkers version had a smaller radius (deeper half round). The foundry files also piqued interest.
