I've been doing some acrylic work and I'm hoping that a smaller dot will get me a little better resolution. What I have isn't bad... but I would like better. Thanks for the replies guys!

You'll get a smaller spot size, but might not be able to cut it.
The depth of field is more shallow.
I might try a 1" for making cliches though. No cutting involved.
