    Proportions for a document box

I want to build a document box for my Grand daughter, who will be going to the University Of Texas next Fall. It will be for her to keep in her dorm room.

I have played with using 1:1.618 ratios for the three dimensions, (l,w,&h).

I really don't like those proportions even if it is based on the Golden Mean. What proportions should I experiment with to get a box about 18" wide that hits the sweet spot?

    I will appreciate your suggestions.

The attached image is what I'm thinking about. Since she will be there for several years, we might call it a dormitory box.
The long dimension might be a bit large, I think it will have brass hinges and be key lockable. Just something to keep someone
from rummaging through personal stuff. The second box is one I saw and pulled the dimensions from. I'm concerned about making the lid.
