Question for Plumbers or Pipe Fitters

I need to run a gas line, 1/2" black iron pipe, for a new gas stove. My question is this,

The distance between two fittings is X inches, how much do I add to this to allow for the thread into the fittings on both ends?

    Thanks
    George

I think at least 1 pipe diameter (o.d.) per end is required.

I always add 3/4" to whatever it is between the fittings.

Start at one end with stock length pieces. When you get to a place that requires a specific, oddball measurement, Home Depot will sell you the pipe, and thread the end for you.

You might want to check your local codes, many require that the new flexible gas piping be used. It will also simplify making pieces fit.

Measure from center to center of the two fittings, then minus one inch. that will give you the correct length of pipe.

Flexible is only required from the in house line to the stove.

For 1/2" pipe, I think 1/2" for thread into fittings.

Ive been a plumber for over twenty years. Measure end to end of each fitting and add 3/4". Trust me, after running thousands of feet of black pipe of all sizes 3/4" is the number.
