pen adapter --sharpie or HB regular pencil

a friend machined out a 1/2 shaft adaper fits right into the router collet
its spring loaded with about 1/2 play ,the pencil or sharpie is held in with a set screw
The body is brass and the 2 inserts are plastic to house the pencil or sharpie
I called it the king pen adapter

I have one that uses a Mini Sharpie. The Mini gives you more Z flexibility and because it's not sticking out so far it has very little, if any, side deflection. It also has a pencil adapter but I found that the pencil lead flattens/dulls too quickly to be very useful.

certain projects require a pre-run so one can move the work piece to the best spot excluding a knot or a split
I am pleased with the tool addition

Absolutely. I have used mine several times to aid in positioning the work piece.
