    Clearwater Gel Stain

I am reviewing old WW magazine articles, and see in one, a fellow says, in response to Bob Flexner saying that all Gel Stain obscure the grain, that 'Clearwater Gel Stain' doesn't obscure the grain as much as many others. It still mitigates blotching, etc, and is water based.

Anybody ever use it-is this true?

David, I used it a long time ago. I didn't compare it to other gel stains as far as obscuring grain, but I recall that it was very easy to use, wipe on, wipe off (remember Karate Kid?), and that if the wood was going to splotch, it would splotch with the gel stain, you still have to use diluted shellac or pre-stain sealer to avoid that. If you try it I'd be interested in your reaction to it.
