Does it matter how high the screws are on a Moxon-style vise? I'm trying to make one with jaws 5 1/2" high. I figured I would just center the screws 2 3/4" from the top.

that sounds about right. there is no set in stone numbers for this. just do what you feel is right.

I centered my Moxon screws as you are planning to do. The only drawback is when clamping something that does not extend 4" down into the jaws.
