    Rebate plane

I recently acquired an Anant rebate plane and want to tune it up. I noticed that one side is square to the sole, while the other side is not. How important is it to correct this and what's the best way to proceed?

How far out of square is it?

Most of the time my rebate (rabbet) plane is used only against one side. Only when some squirrelly grained wood hits the bench does it need to be set for left hand use.

    Do you know any machinists?

Not knowing your location it may be futile to suggest someone here in the U.S. if you are in Europe or some other part of the world.

It's actually not as bad as I thought. Within a degree or so. I think I was just a little careless the first time I measured it. Thanks!

A degree is not good. Dead square is needed.
