    Mechanical furniture questions

Alright so I saw this awesome thing on youtube.

The cool "rails and gears" is... yes whatever the heck this stuff is I want to incorporate this into my projects. Where, what, how do you get this kind of hardware/mechanical parts for furniture. Most of the stuff I saw for cabinet rails is just the standard low grade metal ball bearing or not quite so... fancy looking. I am sure this was custom made, but does anyone know of a secret nook or cranny somewhere that has things like this?

this is not exactly what you're looking for (typical first poster), but you might like this site.
it is woodworkers who build their own woodworking machines.

A great research reference for this sort of thing is the book:

507 Mechanical Movements: Mechanisms and Devices by Henry T. Brown --- the diagrams from this book are now available on-line in an animated form: http://507movements.com/

An online available set of plans for a similar project: http://www.instructables.com/id/Myst...able/?ALLSTEPS

My guess is a lot of that stuff will need to be custom made.

You might look at Grainger and McMaster-Carr for small gears and such.

I can't even wrap my head around all that movement. Insane amount of thought in that little bench!

Thanks all for the input and information.
@ Dave exactly what I was looking for Mcmasters has a brass gear and rack set that I think might just do the trick for a more simple drawer system.
@ William and Evan both sites saved! Both have some goodies I will take a look at again.
