Thread: River Birch wall hanging

    River Birch wall hanging

This was roughed out as a platter blank but I made it into a wall hanging during final turning. Used Belen's "Sol-Lux" dyes to dye the top red and the bottom blue, after sanding that back a little, sprayed the whole thing with yellow. Finished with lacquer, just over 15 inches in diameter. A knot above the crotch figure inspired the theme and became the "moon".
This is a small part of the first river birch that I have worked with, it is well behaved wood with really nice crotch figure and rather bland straight sections.
    Comments and critiques welcome.

Very original to say the least. You are truly getting artsy. Quite a piece and should display well.

The lighter dyes do show off the feather, and a good job of capturing it. Nice piece.

Nice piece. The dyes really stand out and the "moon" and feather are very nice.
I may not have it all together, but together we have it all.

Nice idea well done. With no explanation I think most people will "get it". Without the explanation I would have thought the moon was mother of pearl. But is was knot
