I had ripped apart thousands of feet of trim over the years and had never seen this weird mitre joint spline before and then the last two jobs in a row the trim had them. I did a little research and found out they are called clamp nails. Unfortunately I can't find out very much informatin about them. How do you install them, cut the slot thathtye go into in the first place and why did they go away? They seem to work great. Edit found some more info on them under joint nail but would love to hear from someone that has actually worked with them before.
