Wow, I really expected them to actually start shipping, maybe not many, but some. There was such a buildup the past month. Oh well if you have money put down on one, I'd get a refund..... And buy anything else you can afford! Maybe in a few years gf 2.0 might be worth buying, but I don't think so.... I see bankruptcy ahead

I watched the live feed and Dan said there was less than 100 units shipped to them and out of that he stated on the forum that most had problems.

I don't even have a dog in this fight but I have followed it because it sounded like interesting technology.
I really like how he states less than 100 units, my guess is that it is less then 10, since they only recently chose a manufacturing partner, and from the looks of the review video, their camera only works if you place your trace in the center of the bed. These knuckleheads are still in the design phase, so it's no wonder they haven't been able to hit any deadline.
I have so many more thoughts, but it's a complete waste of time to write them down, my laser and I have work to do.
    End of rant.

I watched the video Nigel posted... I'm curious... where's the smoke? There's no exhaust that I can see.

Built in fume filter (that will last about 2 days on mdf)

Glowforge is what happens when you have a whole bunch of people who have a great idea but no knowledge of the subject matter. If they had at least ONE decent time served laser specialist onboard then the problems they are having would never have come to pass.

My daughter (25) was the one who showed the GW to me originally. I loved the idea. Told her last night about the additional delay and she just laughed and said typical crowd funding!
She almost bought into a smaller one (less than $100) a while back but noticed they had put out a second crowd fund on a different site and then a third before anyone much noticed and then Poof! Gone!

I think this sort of thing is buyer beware.

Once (if they ever) ship what's left to ship after this delay and then have 6 months of fixing any issues, it may be a potential for small use. But I still think it is very iffy.
If they ever go bankrupt or just close shop down after shipping these things, you have an EXPENSIVE Paperweight. Nothing more. Won't work without the internet and THEIR server system.

    Too much risk for me!

I think their doomed to failure . It was advertised as an affordable kitchen table top laser that your 10 year old could use. Now after a couple years and several delays they still don't have a good working laser and the price has increased to way more then original. Gessh if your gonna spend $6000 bucks on a laser you might as well get a real one that works with anyone's materials, works at home all the time no internet needed. Won't shut down every few minuets to cool down, has a metal shell for some fire protection and can actually engrave stuff in less then 40 min's.

I believe what he actually said was that they had produced "around 90 units," not "less than 100."

You can watch the Q&A video archived here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tsMmBacqwY

The part that really struck me is when he said "We are starting to work on the 'Pro' software just now" when he addressed the status of the Pro model [starts at 30:45 in the video]. It seems like the main selling point of the "Pro" model is the pass-through ability, but the CEO admitted in the livestream that they haven't really done much at all yet to get that working. Yikes.

This is why most people need to be paid a week or two AFTER their work is done. Heap a few Million $$ on someone who was expecting a few thousand, and suddenly, working for it seems pointless... Human nature

If , and this is a BIG IF, they do start shipping them in volume only then will their real problems start, they will be swamped with technical problems, and next will come legal problems. Its no better than a chinese laser, but they the Chinese have the right idea, make em cheap, sell em cheap, ship them out the door, ignore the customer based X thousand miles away, and the kind of people that buy them kinda accept this. Glowforge customers are going to want hand holding and they will have no infrastructure to support this. They have gone from nothing to being one of the largest laser suppliers (on paper) overnight. Be like apple taking advanced orders for 2'000'000 driver-less cars, its bonkers, A good Idea that got way out of hand !
Id be asking for a refund NOW, before the whole thing comes crashing down
