My gift production is nearly done for the season. Thought I'd try making one entirely with hand tools. Here is a simple oven rack puller/pusher made from basswood (cut from a fallen branch in my front yard):
A quick little project that let me play with my hewing axe, spokeshaves, block planes, and files (and some sandpaper, alas). Never cut basswood before, it sure slices nicely but dents like crazy with a little clamp pressure.
I sure like using my restored Garant broad/hewing axe (bought it at Handworks this year, re-ground the edge and refinished the handle):
