    Goodell-Pratt 5 1/2 B - disassembling the gear shifter

I have a Goodell-Pratt 5 1/2 B mostly taken down for a restoration, but I cannot get the shifter knob retaining pin (visible on the right) to budge. I prefer not to have to mask it for painting the frame, and I would like to disassemble it to clean it out well and derust everything. I sure don't want to break anything. Any suggestions?

Some pins are tapered, some are peened at both ends.

Yours looks rather rounded over. Can you tell if the ends are enlarged?

It's hard to see, but I am worried they might be peened on both sides. I guess I could drill and replace them, but that sounds like way more trouble than I want.

My choice is usually to leave things together if they don't have to come apart.
