    Salt Box

Boss wanted a salt box, so this is what she ended up with.

Green Ash (I think) with a walnut lid and ash knob.

Just finished with salad bowl (one coat) inside. Lee Valley Shello-wax on the outside.

    About 4 inches in dia.

Keith I would have swapped finishes and used shellac on the inside and salad bowl finish on the outside. Shellac is odor free, not so with salad bowl finish when used in an enclosed space. I have a box similar to yours that I made years ago and used the same finish. To this day when you take the lid off you can still smell the finish. I've left the lid off for weeks hoping it would cure, but as soon as it's closed up for a day or two the smell comes back. The box makes a nice decoration but we can't put anything inside it.
