    First juried competition

I entered this buckeye burl form into my first juried competition. It was selected for FOUR awards and was purchased by the museum for their permanent collection. Needless to say, I was not only shocked but honored. You may recognize influences from several of the turners from SMC.

Last year, I took this piece to our local arts council where they showed our local turner's club's turnings. It was knocked over within 30 minutes of the show's opening, and the top finial and base/foot were broken. Fortunately the fragile globe was still intact. I turned a new finial and foot and entered it into the juried competition this year.

Not at all surprised you were given that much praise. It is shockingly beautiful. I love the birds mouth notch in the lower spindle. I've learned so much design information just from looking at peoples forms here. Thanks for posting.

I'm not surprized either. I have been impressed by your work for a while now.

  6. Congratulations Eric! The win and purchase by the museum is pretty special, although with your obvious talent it is not a surprise.....well done!

It's beautiful. I'm not surprised by the awards nor by the fact that somebody knocked it over in the previous showing. There's always at least one bull in the china shop.

Eric, congratulations on the awards. Well deserved. The HF is a work of art and is recognized as a work of art. Again, congrats.
